Pierre Servan Schreiber is a member of the Paris and New York bars.
He has built his reputation over three decades in the complex world of mergers and acquisitions and securities transactions. Drawing on this experience, he has developed a fine, cutting-edge expertise and has been singled out as one of the best lawyers in mergers & acquisitions and securities law by Who’s Who Legal.
After co-founding Gaston-Dreyfus, Lévêque, Le Douarin, Servan-Schreiber et Veil in 1984, in 1992 he became European Counsel at the prestigious US law firm Sullivan & Cromwell LLP, where he became the first European partner in the firm’s history in 1998.
In 2000, he joined Skadden Arps, Slate, Meagher and Flom LLP, where he was Managing Partner until 2015.
Confronted with sometimes hostile environments, he has developed a deep conviction of the importance of a peaceful approach to conflicts, particularly within families owning industrial assets or groups of companies, a passion born of his family history marked by the creation and loss of a press empire. As a result, he is a recognised mediator accredited by numerous institutes in France, the United Kingdom and the United States.
He is the co-author with Antoine Garapon of the book “Deals of Justice”, the French leading publication on negotiated settlements with US authorities.
For many years, as a volunteer with the Pierre Claver association, he helped refugees with their appeals for political asylum. He has also intervened on several occasions as a lawyer for the Hopi Indian tribe to try to prevent the auctioning of sacred masks and to organise the repurchase and return to the tribe of a large number of them.
As a member of the Conseil de l’Ordre des Avocats de Paris, he has also helped to improve the working conditions of lawyers, in particular by creating the Commission Harcèlement et Discrimination (Comhadis).
Pierre Servan-Schreiber is also a regular lecturer at SciencesPo Paris and HEC business school. His podcast “Parole de lawyer” by which he shares is experience and know-how is a success among young professionals in particular.
A motorbike enthusiast since the age of 14, he has travelled four of the five continents on motorcycles and has contributed to various books on the subject, reflecting his diverse interests and commitments.
